To qualify for Undergraduate and Postgraduate entry in UK Universities you require CEFR B2 in your IELTS exam. None of the component in your individual test such as Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking should be less than 5.5. For STEM courses the requirement is much higher, and students must demonstrate CEFR Level C1 with scores of 7.5 or higher.

There is IELTS for UKVI General Training and IELTS for UKVI Academic tests, and a newer type of test called IELTS Life Skills.
The IELTS Life Skills test is only available for candidates who require it for UK visa applications, where lower levels of English language are required. The IELTS Life Skills test tests Speaking and Listening skills only.
